St. Patrick School in Chatham hosted area Catholic schools for the annual fall forensic tournament held Nov. 29th. The competition was in interpretive reading, where students choose a favorite book or poem and read a 3-7 minute passage. Varsity (grades 7 and 8) and Junior Varsity (grades 5 and 6) teams competed for individual and team trophies.
St. Patrick School Forensics Team had a remarkable competition, winning both Varsity and Junior Varsity team trophies and multiple individual titles. Leading the charge were 8th graders Alex Greene who won first place in the very competitive individual Varsity competition, and Molly Farrell, who won second place. Also earning trophies were 7th graders Molly McHugh and Connie Masterson, who won both individually and contributed to the team win.
St. Patrick School Junior Varsity members delivered excellent results as well, with 5th grader Joey DiRienzo earning third place in the individual JV completion. Teammates 6th grader Chris Martin and 5th graders Leah Costa and Annie Farrell rounded out the team’s stellar results with finalists trophies.

Volunteers from the Oratory Prep forensics teams judged the competitions. Judges were looking for effectiveness in communicating emotion and meaning through the use of vocal tone, characterization, and facial expression.
The St. Patrick School Forensics teams are coached and mentored by Dr. Janet Gibbs, Debra Bruner, Barbara Nixon, Caitlin Dickinson and Jianna Ingenito. This team of dedicated coaches has produced a highly successful Forensics program that has consistently produced excellent results over an extended period of time.
