St. Patrick School held its own 2018 Winter Olympics, commencing with a Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremonies, on Tuesday, January 30th. The goal of this six-week long celebration is to celebrate and share global cultures and customs, utilizing art, history, science, music, dance, food, and sports. Moreover, students will learn about the nations of the world.
Starting with Opening Ceremonies, students in grades PreK3 – 8 will represent a country, creating elaborate presentations to represent their country’s culture to the school community. Students will also learn about winter sports in physical education classes, including speed skating, bobsledding, hockey, and cross-country skiing. Cultural learning will be gained through exposure to traditional dances. Other activities of note include Grades 4 & 5 hosting a living museum of famous Olympic athletes, with Early Childhood students enjoying an Olympic Festival. Middle school students, as part of a STEM collaboration, will design a sport, to be presented to the Olympic Committee for future consideration. Closing ceremonies for this much-anticipated winter event will take place in March.
