On Wednesday, May 2nd the St. Patrick School (Chatham) Forensic team took first place in the varsity team division and excelled in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity individual events at the Spring Declamation competition hosted by Holy Spirit School (Pequannock Township).
St. Patrick’s Forensics Team demonstrated its breadth and depth with nearly every Varsity Team member placing. Alex Greene (8th Grader) led the team with a first-place win followed by teammate, 7th Grader Brian Boler. The rest of the talented Varsity and Junior Varsity teams earned finalist trophies including 7th Graders Collin Boler, Molly McHugh, Connie Masterson and Ava Simmons, and JV Team Members Joey DiRenza, Jimmy Hughes and Chris Martin. Other contributing Varsity and JV Team members included John Shalhoub (V), Leah Costa (JV), Kevin Giblin (JV), Patrice Masterson (JV), Sean Windels (JV) and Nick Zidzuinas (JV).
St. Patrick’s Forensics Teams have a strong tradition of forensics success and are coached and mentored by Dr. Janet Gibbs, Debra Bruner, Barbara Nixon, Caitlin Dickinson and Jianna Ingenito. This team of dedicated coaches has produced a highly successful Forensics program that has consistently produced excellent results over an extended period.

The annual declamation competition attracted teams from both Holy Spirit School and Assumption School. Declamation is a considered to be a challenging form of speech competition, requiring participants to memorize and present a 3-7-minute speech which is judged on presentation, posture and communication skills.
St. Patrick School provides students with the tools necessary to be successful in the 21st century. Their ultimate goal is to produce individuals who are responsible, life-long learners, effective communicators and problem solvers.
