I urge my fellow Chatham Borough voters to select Carolyn Dempsey and Jocelyn Mathiasen for council this November 6.
One of my main complaints about our town is that Main Street is becoming more and more vacant and dilapidated, in contrast to the towns around us. Chatham should offer a family-friendly experience downtown for shopping and dining. The Republicans have dominated our council for years now, so the deterioration of our Main Street is happening on their watch. I think Carolyn and Jocelyn will bring a new perspective on how best to increase foot traffic and entice other Chatham shoppers to patronize the stores there. I believe they can do that better than the two men they are running against.
Carolyn is smart and tough: Did you know that she has Capitol Hill experience? Did you know that, as a Russian Studies expert, she was offered a job by the CIA to be a covert operative? After spending a year in recruitment with the agency, she decided not to make the decades-long commitment they wanted and followed other aspirations. She also has an incredible history of deep-rooted community service and professional experience, including the fact that she herself is a small business owner.

Jocelyn could hardly be more qualified to be on council. She has a master’s degree from Harvard University in Government; it’s her job to make municipalities, large and small, more efficient, more responsive to residents, and save money. Did you know that she has brought in almost $9 MILLION in grant money to the municipalities she has worked for? Did you know that she regularly streamlines processes so that new businesses don’t have as much red tape to deal with before they can open their doors?
Please vote for Democrats Carolyn Dempsey and Jocelyn Mathiasen, and let’s have some new voices on council. In my 22 years in Chatham Borough, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Main Street look this bad.
