5 Cherry Hill Schools Entered Lockout During Police Investigation

Police determined there were no suspicious individuals or safety threats in the schools' vicinity.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Five Cherry Hill schools instituted security protocols Thursday morning after a "suspicious person" was reported in the area, officials said. But police determined there were no suspicious individuals or safety threats in the schools' vicinity.

Lockouts impacted Cherry Hill High School West, John A. Carusi Middle School and three elementary schools: Clara Barton, Joyce Kilmer and Thomas Paine. The collective lockout was lifted late Thursday morning, and the school day proceeded as normal.

During a lockout, schools secure their exterior doors, suspend outdoor activities and prohibit people from entering or exiting their buildings. But classroom instruction and the change of classes continue as normal.
