6-Year-Old Shot At Camden Fireworks Likely To Get Released From Hospital Thursday

The victim has been hospitalized since she was struck in the left knee on the Fourth of July, according to Camden County authorities.

CAMDEN, NJ — The 6-year-old girl who was shot during Camden's Fourth of July fireworks will soon leave the hospital, according to officials.

The victim was struck in the knee during Tuesday night's shooting, which occurred a block away from Wiggins Park, where the fireworks show took place. Cooper Medical Center will likely release her at some point Thursday, according to a Camden County spokesperson.

Her injuries weren't life-threatening, officials said.

More than 20,000 people enjoyed Camden County's Independence Day celebration, which culminated in fireworks over the Delaware River by the Camden Waterfront. The shooting occurred at about 10:15 p.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Riverside Drive, while fireworks were going off.

Police say they recovered a gun from the scene.

The Camden County Police Department has a person of interest — a juvenile Philadelphia resident. The incident remains under investigation, with charges to be determined as of Thursday afternoon.
