Burglary Spike In Cherry Hill Prompts Increased Patrols
Some of the incidents involved 'less traditional' styles of residential burglary, according to Cherry Hill's police chief.
CHERRY HILL, NJ — A recent uptick in residential burglaries around Cherry Hill prompted police to increase patrols in impacted neighborhoods. Some of the incidents involved "less traditional" burglary styles, according to Police Chief Robert Kempf.
The agency is investigating a pattern of five residential burglaries from the past two months, Kempf told Patch. The incidents occurred throughout the township's East-end communities, which have received additional patrols.
"While I cannot disclose the specific investigative actions we are taking, the Cherry Hill Police Department is proactively investigating these with a laser-focused response," Kempf said.

Of the five incidents under investigation, most follow a pattern of daytime burglaries that target unoccupied homes, the police chief says. Some cases involved unlocked doors or windows, while others entailed forced entry through a rear door or window — away from the public view of streets.
"We are also tracking a statewide group of criminals that have been targeting high-end vehicles," Kempf added. "Most recently we believe this group has been active in this area, specifically committing less traditional burglary styles of targeting garages and homes in the late night and early morning hours. In some cases, vehicle keys have been left in or around the targeted vehicles."

- Lock your vehicle doors.
- Lock all doors/windows to their residences.
- Turn on exterior lights and activate all alarms and security systems.
- Ensure that your garage and/or shed are locked and secured.
