Cop Who Fatally Struck Man In Camden Co. Has Been Identified: AG
Authorities disclosed the name of a police sergeant accused of hitting and killing a man with his police vehicle early Thanksgiving morning.
ATCO, NJ — The officer accused of fatally striking a man with his police vehicle in Camden County has been publicly identified.
Waterford Police Sgt. Richard Sbarra hit the pedestrian early Thanksgiving morning in Atco, authorities announced Friday. The state Office of the Attorney General (OAG) identified the victim as Christofe "Christopher" Wita, 44, of Berlin.
While on duty, Sbarra struck Wita on the White Horse Pike, the OAG said. Wita was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m.

The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing, and the OAG offered no additional information about the incident.
Per state law, the OAG conducts investigations into deaths that occur during an encounter with law enforcement or while the decedent is in custody. The office must present findings to a grand jury to determine whether the evidence supports any indictment for involved officers.

Sbarra has 13 years of service in law enforcement, according to the state pension database.
