Gas Nearly 80 Percent Water At Camden Station: Report

After drivers were left stranded, gas at the Conoco on Admiral Wilson Boulevard was found to be up to 78% water, according to a report.

CAMDEN, NJ — Gas at a Camden station where drivers were left stranded after fueling up was found to be up to 78 percent water, according to reports.

Police shut the Conoco on Admiral Wilson Boulevard down Sunday evening after cars began breaking down again, county spokesman Dan Keashan told Patch. Read more: Possible Contaminated Gas Again Shuts Down Camden Station: Officials

Now, it's confirmed that the gas was mostly water, with one sample from the tanks containing 63.96 percent water and another sample containing 78.64 percent water, a city spokesperson told New Jersey 101.5.

The station was shut down previously in January for the same issue, when it was discovered that the fuel supply was 58 percent water following a rainstorm. Read more: Contaminated Camden Gas Contained 58 Percent Water: Officials

And as with the January incident, heavy rain was likely the cause again.

Following the previous incident, the Conoco was fined $25,000 and made to repay the impacted vehicle owners for repairs.

This time, the station faces potential permanent closure if the past problems are not corrected and the fuel fails to pass inspections, according to a NBC10 report.
