Local Counselor Presents Nationally at ASCA Conference in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Schopfer, a school counselor and mental health professional from South Jersey, recently presented at the 2026 American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Annual Conference in New Orleans, one of the nation’s premier gatherings of school counseling professionals.

Dr. Schopfer delivered a presentation on School-Based Threat Assessment, sharing research-based practices designed to help schools identify and respond appropriately to potential threats while supporting students’ mental health and overall well-being. Her presentation provided fellow educators and school counselors

with practical strategies for fostering safe, supportive learning environments.

The ASCA Annual Conference attracts thousands of school counselors, administrators, and education professionals from across the United States, providing a forum for sharing innovative programs and emerging best practices in student support and school safety.

A graduate of Cherry Hill High School West, where she was valedictorian of the Class of 2009, Dr. Schopfer earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania before completing her doctoral studies at Capella University. Throughout her career, she has focused on advancing student mental health services and strengthening school communities through evidence-based counseling practices.

Family members said they are proud to see Dr. Schopfer representing South Jersey on the national stage and using her knowledge and experience to benefit educators and students across the country.
Reflecting on her faith and commitment to service, Dr. Schopfer often draws inspiration from Proverbs 16:3: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
