Man Who Shot Estranged Wife Near Cherry Hill Mall Arrested: Cops

Brian Walker was arrested in Florida after a month-long search.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - A Camden man has been arrested for shooting his estranged wife outside an apartment complex across the street from the Cherry Hill Mall last month, authorities announced Wednesday morning.

Brian Walker, 53, was arrested without incident in Tampa, Florida, on Friday, Dec. 7, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office announced. He has been charged with attempted murder for shooting the 29-year-old woman at Cherry Hill Towers on Route 38 on Sunday night, Nov. 4.

Police believe Walker waited outside the complex for the woman to come out, and shot at her and her friend as they approached the car just before 11:30 p.m. that night. He fled after shooting the woman multiple times, police said.

Cherry Hill police who responded to the apartment complex found the woman laying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released. The woman’s friend wasn’t injured in the shooting.

The identities of both the woman and her friend weren't released on Wednesday.

The day after the shooting, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office released Walker’s image to the public. They were assisted by members of the United States Marshals Task Force – Tampa, Florida Division in tracking down and arresting Walker.

Walker also been charged with violating a restraining order, multiple counts of aggravated assault and weapons offenses, including possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Walker had previously been convicted of burglary and was not permitted to own a weapon.

He was transported to a county jail in Tampa, Florida and is awaiting extradition to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order that he be detained or released with conditions.
