Monkeypox Vaccine Distribution Plan For South Jersey

There were 45 probable and confirmed cases of monkeypox in New Jersey as of Tuesday, according to the state Department of Health.

CAMDEN, NJ — Camden County was recently designated a "regional storage hub" for the vaccine by the New Jersey Department of Health, Camden County said.

This means any regional health departments based in South Jersey with cases and close contacts will work with Camden County health officials to get the vaccine, according to the county.

The state of New Jersey currently has about 2,700 doses of the vaccine, the state health department said.

"The department continues to press the [Centers for Disease Control] on timely delivery of additional necessary doses to meet the needs of our at-risk populations," State Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said.

In related news, the criteria for those who may receive a monkeypox vaccine has expanded, the state said.

This update means that anyone who was exposed to someone with monkeypox, anyone who attended an event where known monkeypox exposure occurred and anyone who identified as gay, bisexual, or men who have sex with men should contact their local health department to begin the process of obtaining a vaccine, according to the state.

There were 45 probable and confirmed cases of monkeypox in New Jersey as of Tuesday, according to the state Department of Health.

Two of those cases were in Camden County, officials with that county said.
