Plans Nixed For New VA Medical Center In South Jersey
Building such a facility spurred from a Trump-era initiative to improve the health of U.S. veterans, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs said
SOUTH JERSEY — The U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs' put the kibosh on a Trump-era initiative regarding U.S. veterans' health, some of those senators said earlier this week.
In so doing, plans for building a new Veterans Affairs Medical Center being built in the Camden area ended.
Plans for the Camden-area medical center were part of a VA Asset and Infrastructure Review (AIR) released earlier this year. The review was authorized by former President Donald J. Trump and said to be developed with input from multiple relevant stakeholders, the VA said.

Earlier this week, a bipartisan group of the Senate committee's members adamantly opposed the AIR Commission and any effort made by it, including the possibility of a new Veterans Affairs Medical Center being built in the Camden area.
"We believe the recommendations put forth to the AIR Commission ... would put veterans in both rural and urban areas at a disadvantage, which is why we are announcing that this process does not have our support and will not move forward," the U.S. Senators said in a joint statement.
