CHERRY HILL, NJ — A tree planted in Cherry Hill on Saturday for Arbor Day has an interesting history.

Some tree seedlings planted at Barclay Farmstead came from a Salem Oak that was believed to be more than 500 years old when it fell in 2019, according to Cherry Hill Mayor Susan Shin Angulo.

"These seedlings were propagated and grown in the New Jersey Forest Service nursery from acorns collected under the grant of the mighty tree before it was toppled over," she said at a recent council meeting.

On Saturday, tree seedlings and instructions on "how to store, care for and plant the trees" were given out, Angulo said.

Those who missed their chance to get the free seedlings can visit the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection webpage or click this link to learn how to get their own.
