Demolition Decision Made On Cherry Hill Structure

The issue involves a structure within the township's borders, according to a township resolution and some township residents.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The structure at 1138 Winding Drive in Cherry Hill is one step closer to being demolished, due to a unanimous 'yea' vote of a resolution that was presented to Cherry Hill Township Council Members at its June 15 council meeting.

This is a "very important step in resolving a neighborhood issue that has been outstanding for years," Council President David Fleisher said at the meeting.

The owner of the structure failed to "complete the project in accordance with statutory deadlines" over multiple years, according to a resolution regarding the property.

"The property has been in a state of construction since approximately March 2009 and has failed to comply with the timing requirements under applicable standards for construction permits," according to the ordinance.

A handful of township residents who attended the meeting applauded the council's unanimous vote.

"We have been living with this in our backyard for over 14 years," said Bob Stern, one of those township residents. "We do appreciate the township backing on this ... Hopefully we can act quickly on this and the timeline for taking the house down will be short and not dragged out."

A date for the demolition of the structure was not immediately set.
