Voices Unite for a Cause: A Cappella Concert Supports Breast Cancer Re

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Cherry Hill-based Jersey Sound Chorus, an award-winning a cappella group affiliated with Sweet Adelines International, is hosting its 2nd annual “Hope in Harmony” benefit concert. This inspiring event will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 1:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, NJ. All net proceeds from the concert will go directly to support the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA), a national nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness, funding research, and advocating for patients affected by lobular breast cancer.

After last year’s successful inaugural event, which united three women’s singing groups and a children’s choir, the 2024 concert is set to be even more exciting, with the addition of a men’s chorus. Audiences can look forward to a performance filled with songs from musicals and movies, adding a delightful "showtime" theme to the event. The concert will feature the talents of:

• Jersey Sound, Shades of Harmony, and Philadelphia Freedom—all member choruses of Sweet Adelines International
• Rittenhouse Sound, a men’s chorus from the Philadelphia Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society
• ChildrenSong of NJ, an acclaimed youth choir

With this incredible lineup of vocal groups, attendees will experience a harmonious blend of a cappella arrangements, while helping to raise awareness for an important cause.

Why Lobular Breast Cancer Matters

Lobular breast cancer is a subtype of breast cancer that is often less studied and understood compared to other forms. It is the 6th most frequently diagnosed cancer in U.S. women, yet it lacks targeted treatments and specific diagnostic tools. Unlike other breast cancers, lobular breast cancer does not typically form lumps, making it harder to detect with traditional screening methods. This contributes to many cases being diagnosed at later stages, when treatment is more difficult.

The Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA) works tirelessly to change this by funding research into better diagnostic tools and treatment options. The organization also advocates for patient education, ensuring that those affected by this type of cancer have the information and support they need.

In addition to local efforts, LBCA is also driving national and international initiatives, including the movement to designate October 15th as Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day. This date was chosen to recognize the approximately 15% of breast cancer patients who are diagnosed with this specific subtype.
