Woman Rescued From Bottom Of Well After 20-Foot Fall In South Jersey

The complex rescue involved extricating the victim from knee-deep mud and stabilizing her fractured leg, officials said.

PILESGROVE, NJ — A woman fell about 20 feet down a well Monday afternoon in Salem County, officials said. More than a dozen agencies conducted a complex rescue before she was airlifted to the hospital.

First responders reached the scene at about 3:30 p.m. after the woman fell down the well inside a Pilesgrove Township home and potentially fractured her ankle. Because of the complexity of the rescue, officials requested a second alarm, according to the Woodstown-based Reliance Fire Company.

It took more than an hour to extricate the victim from knee-deep mud and stabilize her fractured leg, officials said. A Medi-Vac helicopter then took her Christiana Hospital in Delaware to treat her injuries, which State Police said were non-life-threatening.
