Anyone who has been scratched or bitten by wildlife, stray cats, or stray dogs in the last month should contact the Health Department at (609) 265-5548.

Pets' rabies vaccines should be checked. Animals that spend time outdoors, were not under the owner's supervision, or have not received a shot in the last three months should get a booster.

Rabies, found in a variety of wild animals, affects the brain and can be deadly.

The virus lives in the saliva of the animals and is spread by a bite or when the saliva enters an open wound, broken skin, or the lining of a mouth.

Anyone with information or concerns surrounding the confirmed rabies case is asked to contact (609) 265-5533.

Additional resources on rabies can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
