Body Discovered in New Jersey River Identified as Missing at-Risk Man

A body that was discovered by a two fishermen in a New Jersey river this weekend has been identified as that of a missing at-risk Philadelphia man, The Press of Atlantic City reports.

The body of 27-year-old John Kohlbecker was discovered in the Mullica River in Washington Township, Burlington County by two fishermen around 11 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the report.

The cause of death was drowning and hypothermia, but his death remains under investigation.

The discovery was made nearly a month to the day after Kohlbecker’s 1995 White Toyota Camry was found in Wharton State Forest in Burlington County.

He had last been seen on Feb. 11, when he was stopped for a traffic violation in Buena at 9:30 p.m.

He left work in Philadelphia earlier that same day, and was also reportedly seen at a ShopRite in Bridgeton the following day, police previously said.

His car was discovered on Feb. 14.

In the ensuing investigation, police discovered stained clothing on the banks of the Mullica River. Numerous items were sent to the State Police laboratory for analysis.

After the fishermen discovered his body Saturday morning, the New Jersey State Police Marine units responded to Mullica River in Burlington County and recovered the body.

Police say it appeared the body had been in the water for “a little while.”
