Burlington County Man Admits Killing Store Clerk: Prosecutor

Eramus Canty admitted to fatally shooting Matthew Mwinsori in 2015, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

A Burlington County man has admitted to fatally shooting a convenience store clerk in Willingboro in 2015, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced. Eramus Canty, 33, of Burlington Township, admitted in Superior Court that he killed 42-year-old Matthew Mwinsori, of Willingboro, following a robbery on Nov. 25, 2015 at the Quick N Go convenience store in the 100 block of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Canty pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, Coffina said. Canty admitted that he went inside the store to rob Mwinsori, and at some point Mwinsori chased him out of the store into the parking lot. A struggle ensued and Canty shot Mwinsori. Mwinsori was taken to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

After investigators identified Canty as a suspect, they distributed information concerning him and his vehicle to law enforcement officials. An Asbury Park police officer spotted Canty's red Dodge Charger pulling into a convenience store on Memorial Drive on Dec. 19, 2015, and requested a back-up unit to assist with the arrest. Canty was taken into custody without incident. Sentencing is scheduled for March 29.
