Cinnaminson To Explore Colonial Square Area For Redevelopment

The planning board was authorized to explore this area during Monday night's meeting at town hall.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — Cinnaminson Committee took steps toward the redevelopment of the Colonial Square Shopping Center at its meeting Monday night at the municipal building.

Committee unanimously approved a resolution to execute an escrow agreement with Delco Development, LLC for the development of the property. This paved the way for a unanimous vote on another resolution, calling for the planning board to explore whether certain areas along Route 130 fall into the category of “areas in need of redevelopment or rehabilitation” in accordance with state law on redevelopment and housing.

The area in question includes the Colonial Square Shopping Center, bounded by Church Road and Branch Pike. The resolution states that the township has had great success with commercial initiatives along Route 130, beginning at the township’s border with Pennsauken.

On Monday night, township officials said this would ensure the area was included among other properties in the area designated as in need of redevelopment back in 2002.

Redevelopment would occur in two phases. Phase I focuses on Colonial Square, while the second phase would extend down beyond the Branch Pike jughandle. Phase II would be considered down the line.

The resolution is now referred to the planning board, which next meets on Tuesday, July 25, 6:30 p.m. at town hall.

Both resolutions were added to the agenda during Monday night’s meeting, following discussions between officials and the developer.

Two items that had been listed for discussion, including vacating Arch Street and transferring the deed to a resident in a neighboring property, as well as a discussion concerning the Christmas Tree and Menorah lightings, were both postponed.

They will be taken up during a special workshop meeting committee approved on Monday night. The special meeting will take place on Thursday, Aug. 3, 6 p.m. at town hall.
