The Cinnaminson High School football team won its final game before the playoff cutoff, and on Sunday, the Pirates will find out how that translates into a playoff berth.

The Pirates defeated Pemberton, 27-6, on Friday night to improve their overall record to 7-1,according to nj.com.

Nick Thevanayagam scored two touchdowns on the ground, on runs of 1 and 8 yards. Dylan Thevanayagam also scored two touchdowns, on runs of 1 and 2 yards.

Cinnaminson has the best record among Central Jersey Group II teams at the cutoff date. However, the Pirates have not been able to overcome their strength of schedule, as they were fifth in the power point standings this week.

Power points are calculated based on the size of the schools a team has defeated, and the number of wins that team has.

Three of the four teams ahead of Cinnaminson in the standings won, and Delaware Valley had a bye week. Two teams behind the Pirates in the standings also won, while eighth-place Lakewood was scheduled to play on Saturday.

The top eight teams in each group after the first eight games of the season qualify for the playoffs. Only a team’s seven best wins of their first eight games count toward qualifying for the playoffs.

The playoffs begin next weekend, and matchups will be announced on Sunday.
