DELRAN, NJ - A Delran man took advantage of his decision to stay home and go to college to become involved in the community, including becoming one of the youngest elected officials in the New Jersey’s history.
Tyler Burrell was elected to serve on Delran Township Council when he was 19 years old. Burrell graduated from high school in 2014, and two years later, he was elected to council. After graduating from high school, Burrell enrolled at Rowan College at Burlington County.
“It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me,” Burrell said in a student profile released by the college in honor of its 50th anniversary. “I wanted to give back to the community that built me.”

Recently, he was accepted into the University of Pennsylvania Law School where he has begun pursuing his law degree. He advises students to start out at RCBC and save their money for graduate school.
“It paid dividends for me,” Burrell said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today, at the University of Pennsylvania Law School without RCBC. I tell everybody to go to community college.”
