Elections 2016: Who's Running for Local Office in Cinnaminson?

The deadline to file petitions to run in this year's primaries was 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Cinnaminson, NJ -- Cinnaminson Committee Member Kathleen Fitzpatrick will not run for re-election this year.

The deadline to file a petition to run in this year’s primaries in the state of New Jersey passed at 4 p.m. on Monday, and only one person filed to run in either primary, according to Acting Cinnaminson Township Clerk Lisa Passione.

Howard “Bud” Evans was the only person to file a petition to run in the Republican Primary. For the sixth year in a row, no one filed to run as a Democrat.

First elected in 2008, she is the only committee member up for re-election this year. She served as Deputy Mayor in the township for the past year.

However, at this year’s reorganization meeting, William “Ben” Young was sworn in as the new deputy mayor.

In Cinnaminson, the public elects five members committee members each November to serve three-year terms. Elections are staggered.

Members of the committee then select a mayor and a deputy mayor to serve a one-year term during the reorganization meeting.

Historically, the deputy mayor who served the previous year would be appointed to the mayor’s seat.

However, rather than nominating Fitzpatrick to the position of mayor, John McCarthy was sworn into his second consecutive term in the seat.

Fitzpatrick and Committee Member Don Brauckman were the dissenting votes in the 3-2 votes for each of those seats.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 8.
