Homeless Vet In Alleged GoFundMe Scam Waives Extradition: Report

Johnny Bobbitt jr. must attend a probation hearing in Philadelphia before returning to New Jersey, according to The Associated Press.

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ - The homeless veteran charged in connection with an alleged $400,000 GoFundMe scam will reportedly return to New Jersey after a probation hearing in Philadelphia.

Johnny Bobbitt Jr. waived extradition during a court appearance in Philadelphia on Thursday, according to The Associated Press. He won’t be permitted to return to New Jersey until after a probation hearing, scheduled for Monday.

Bobbitt, Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico have all been charged with conspiracy and theft by deception in the online fundraiser that raised more than $400,000 for Bobbitt. McClure and D’Amico previously surrendered in New Jersey, and are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 24.

McClure's attorney James Gerrow claimed she was duped by D'Amico, and released an audio recording McClure had secretly made of an argument between the two. Gerrow described their relationship as “controlling and abusive.”

D'Amico's attorney Mark Davis called it “laughable” that McClure was portraying herself as the victim. He also said McClure made up the story about Bobbitt using his last $20 to help her when she ran out of gas while driving into Philadelphia. He said D'Amico initially didn't know the story was made up. That story was used during the campaign to inspire donors to give to Bobbitt.
