Judge to Rule in Separate Trials for Delran Couple Charged With Sexual Abuse
Joseph and Jennifer Carter have been charged with the abuse of three teens over several years. Jennifer Carter claims she was also a victim.

A decision will be made soon on whether there will be separate trials for a Delran couple charged with the sexual abuse of three teenagers over several years, the Burlington County Times reports.
Joseph Carter, 44, and Jennifer Carter, 40, had been charged with more than 50 first- and second-degree crimes.
In April, some of those charges were dismissed.

Jennifer Carter claims she was also a victim of her husband’s crimes. She retained the use of an expert to show she suffered from battered woman’s syndrome.
Detectives in Burlington County initially became aware of the first victim, a 14-year-old boy, in 2012.

The boy claimed he was abused by both adults for years. Further investigation revealed two more victims, eventually identified by detectives through numerous search warrants for cellular telephones, computers and DNA.
The Carters were subsequently charged.
