Man Charged With Burglary After Leading Cinnaminson Police on Chase Through Woods: Police

An alert citizen reported the suspicious man to police on Wednesday.

Cinnaminson, NJ -- A Runnemede man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a foot chase through the woods near Fairfax Drive on Wednesday, Cinnaminson Police said Thursday morning.

Thomas Kearney Jr, 32, was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, theft, resisting arrest, and obstruction.

An alert resident called Cinnaminson Police around 1:16 p.m. on Wednesday to report a suspicious person carrying a bag in the area of the 100 block of Fairfax Drive.

When police arrived, the witness told them the suspect was last seen walking into the wooded area off of Fairfax Drive. Police began checking the woods.

Officer Don Rock found the suspect in the woods, and Kearney subsequently allegedly ran towards the Pennsauken Creek.He then attempted to cross the creek, but got stuck in the waist deep mud.

Once he freed himself, he made his way back to the shoreline where he was arrested without incident.

Police from Riverton, Palmyra, and the Burlington County Bridge Police responded to assist in securing the area.

The Cinnaminson Fire Department responded with equipment to assist officers in recovering the bag from the deep mud. The bag contained various jewelry and other valuables.

Police allege Kearney had broken into a house in the unit block of Fairfax Drive which was not yet reported to police.

He was lodged in Burlington County Jail on $35,000 bail.
