Mother Accused of Setting Baby on Fire Pleads Guilty
The charge of murder was downgraded to aggravated assault.

The 22-year-old South Jersey woman accused of setting her newborn baby on fire last year has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Monday afternoon.
Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, of Pemberton, faces 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter on Monday. The charge was amended from murder as part of a plea deal that was offered to her last week.
She would have to serve 85 percent of her term before becoming eligible for parole. Sentencing is scheduled for April 22.

The deal was offered after results of her psychiatric evaluation were received earlier this month in response to her plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.
She admitted to setting her newborn baby on fire on Simontown Road in Pemberton just before 11 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2015.

The umbilical cord and placenta were still attached to the baby.
The baby, later named Angel, was airlifted to Saint Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia and was reported to be alive and breathing at that time. The baby died approximately two hours later.
According to Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood, the baby died of smoke inhalation.
