Video Evidence to be Permitted in Delran Couple's Sexual Assault Case
Joseph Carter had been arguing that police violated his rights during an early morning interrogation.

The videotaped interrogation of a Delran man charged with the sexual assault of three teenagers will be part of the evidence during the trial, a Superior Court judge ruled this week.
In rendering the ruling, the judge said Miranda Rights were properly administered to 44-year-old Joseph Carter, the Burlington County Times reports.
Carter had disputed that he had been made aware of his rights before being questioned in the early morning hours on Feb. 23, 2012, according to the report. Carter claimed he was answering questions against his will, but the judge ruled there was no evidence to prove that claim, according to the report.

Carter and his wife, 40-year-old Jennifer Carter, had been charged with more than 50 first- and second-degree crimes in the incident.
In April, some of those charges were dismissed, but the judge ruled that the couple will not be tried separately.

Jennifer Carter claims she was also a victim of her husband’s crimes.
She is retaining an expert’s report to show she suffered from battered woman’s syndrome, according to the report.
Detectives in Burlington County initially became aware of the first victim, a 14-year-old boy, in 2012.
The boy claimed he was abused by both adults for years. Further investigation revealed two more victims, eventually identified by detectives through numerous search warrants for cellular telephones, computers and DNA.
The Carters were subsequently charged.
