Diamonds in the Rough: Mothers and Daughters Team-up for Game Time Fun

This column is the eyes and ears of all that is happening in the world of the Clark Girls Softball League.

Rain, rain and yes more rain. All this rain couldn’t stop the Clark Girls Softball League from its annual Mother’s Day team play. Each year in the Instructional Division, mothers and guardians are invited to play side-by-side with their daughters. They get to run the bases, play the field and even take a few swings with the bat (off the tee of course). There were smiles on both sides of the diamond and fun was had by all. For me, I certainly enjoyed watching my wife on the field with my daughter and more importantly it was a wonderful moment for my family.

Scores and more

It’s been two weeks since I last reported the CGSB divisional standings and there has been lots of movement. This week’s weather presented some challenges for game play, but most of the games did get played.

The Major Division saw a lot of action, with some movement in the standings.  Diverse Development remains the team to catch; however, UNICO is a heartbeat away and The Eye Center of Clark, Dufek & Migliaro, Paper Chase and T’s 4U are all making things very interesting. Hold on to your hats… things are really heating up!

The Minor Division continues to produce some of the most exciting games in the league. Molly Maguire’s holds a one game lead over division rival Diverse Development. However, the Clark Fire Department is coming on strong and is only 1.5 games out of the top stop. Cornerstone Physical Therapy, East Coast Conditioning and Bistro 1051 are all playing hard, making each and every game exciting and spirited.

The Pee Wee and Instructional Divisions got rained out a few times these past two weeks, but that hasn’t deterred the girls from getting back on the diamond and having fun when the clouds gave way to the sun.

Reminder: Clark Girls Softball Clothing Drive

Next week, the CGSB is hosting its first annual clothing collection drive. The project is geared to help those who are in need of clothing, while the CGSB receives a small stipend based on the total weight in clothing received.  The drop-off dates will be May 29th thru June 1 from 4:00PM to 8:30PM and on June 2nd till 2:30PM.

Gently used clothing is preferred, but anything people can donate is greatly appreciated. Donating is simple, please just place the clothing in a tied plastic trash bag and drop it off at the complex under the pavilion. In addition to clothing, we are also collecting all forms of linens and stuffed animals. These items, based on the condition, will either be donated for continued use and enjoyment or recycled. Either way, everything is given a second chance to bring happiness to people’s lives.

Till next time, see you in the rough…
