Diamonds in the Rough: Something New at the CGSB Complex

The column will be the eyes and ears of all that is happening in the world of the Clark Girls Softball League. Scores, standings and league news will make-up the foundation of this journal.

Last week while the business community was honoring and enjoying ‘Bring Your Child to Work Day’, the Clark Girls Softball League (CGSB) was completing some highly anticipated upgrades to the complex.

The instructional field received two new aluminum benches this week. The benches were placed along the first and third baselines and are a part of the overall plan of keeping the softball complex in prime playing condition.  This portion of the complex continues to be a priority for the CGSB and will see more upgrades in 2013.

The pedestrian path between the concession stand and Nelson field, along with the access way to the CGSB equipment sheds, were leveled and paved with macadam. Formally, these two areas were lined with crushed gravel and quarry dust, which overtime deteriorated due to heavy foot traffic and rain water runoff.  This whole area looks great!

Earlier this year, the CGSB made an investment into Dolan field. The field received a complete overhaul by a team of professional field developers. The field’s turf and dirt was gutted and replaced with professional grade soil and sod. Additionally, to help with water management and drainage, the field was leveled with laser-centric equipment to eliminate the nagging issue of pooling water.

Other improvements to the complex this season, includes six new picnic benches located under the pavilion in front of the concession stand, yards and yards of new infield dirt and new playing and safety equipment.

Scores and More

In other news, our friends over at the Clark Little League held its third annual Earth Day Scrap Metal event at ALJ High School on Sunday, April 29th. Thanks guys for helping keep our community clean and green!

This week’s weather presented some challenges for game play. Mother Nature was being a little difficult, but most of the games did get played.

The Major Division saw a lot of action this week, with some movement in the standings.  UNICO remains the team to catch; however, Diverse Development is a heartbeat away and The Eye Center of Clark, Dufek & Migliaro, Paper Chase and T’s4U are all within striking distance.

The Minor Division continues to produce some of the most exciting games in the league. Moving up in the standings this week is Clark Fire Department. However, it wasn’t enough to take over the top spot currently held by Molly Maguire’s. East Coast Conditioning is coming on strong along with Diverse Development, Cornerstone and Bistro 1051 respectively.

The Pee Wee and Instructional Divisions got in a full week of games except on Thursday, where rain played the role of spoiler. The weekend gave way to plenty of sunshine and game play resumed and so did the fun!

Till next time, see you in the rough….
