Clark Sees Spike In Coronavirus Cases

The number of coronavirus cases reported this week is 10 times the amount normally reported in the township.

CLARK, NJ — Clark recently saw a spike in positive coronavirus cases with 10 times the amount of new cases normally reported in one week.

Clark Health Officer Nancy Raymond said the township received 10 cases of COVID-19 between Sept. 21 and 26.

No specific events have been traced to the recent cases, Raymond said.

This is much higher than the average 1 case per week the township received throughout the summer months of July and August, Raymond said.

To date, from March and including Monday, the township has reported a total of 291 positive coronavirus cases.

Raymond declined to comment on the total number of deaths in the township, "because of the possible misrepresenting on death statistics."

Clark had previously reported as of Aug. 28 a total of 24 deaths since the pandemic began.

A positive coronavirus case, the first for the district, was also reported at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School last Tuesday. The case caused the school to switch from hybrid to virtual learning for the remainder of the week. Read More: Positive Coronavirus Case Reported At Clark Middle School

The school will reopen on Tuesday.

"Please know that the needed cleaning and disinfecting has been completed and that we are looking forward to our students' return," Superintendent Ed Grande said.
