Fatal Accident Backed Up Parkway, Clark GSP South Entrance Closed

Traffic was so bad motorists were getting out of their cars to ask police, "Whats going on?"

CLARK, NJ-- The Clark entrance to the Parkway South was closed for nearly four hours Wednesday night after a five car fatal accident around 7:30 PM. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, State Police told Patch.

Both directions were closed as a result, with the northern lanes reopeneing around 8:10 PM, NJ.com reported. As of 8:00 PM, delays stretched for three miles, with traffic spilling over to local roads.

One lane has reopened on the southbound side around 9:00 PM, and traffic was diverted off of Exit 135, according to State Police. All lanes were reopened at 11:16 PM.

Motorists stuck on the Exit 135 entrance ramp had nowhere to go, and the confusion and frustration was evident. Frustrated drivers could be seen getting out of their cars to ask police, "What's going on?" Traffic problems stretched as far back as the Central Ave Target parking lot.

One woman told Patch, from her car on the Parkway, that she had been sitting in standstill traffic for over two hours, less than a mile away from the accident.

Multiple fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles could be seen approaching the Parkway from Central Ave. Local residents took to Facebook to complain of sirens, helicopters, and loved ones stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.
