Mother Seton Regional High School Students Capture Medals and Trophies at State World Language Competition

Students from Mother Seton Regional High School took top honors at the annual world language competition in Latin, Spanish and French.

On Thursday, May 14th, eleven students from Mother Seton Regional High School competed at the 32nd annual world language competition at William Paterson University. Over fifty schools and nearly 1,000 students from the state of New Jersey participated in the event.

Taking first place in Beginner Latin was freshman Katherine Blum. Diana White, a sophomore, placed second in Intermediate Latin. Both of these students received a trophy from the University. Junior Samantha Casano achieved fourth place in Intermediate Latin and received a medal from the University.

Following is a list of all students chosen by their teachers to compete at various world language levels. Each received a certificate of participation and merit issued by the World Language Department at William Paterson University.

Juniors: Kristin Howard: Intermediate Spanish, Kate Arellano: Native Spanish, Samantha Casano: Advanced Latin, Kathy Castor: Native French

Seniors: Sarah Dedinsky: Advanced Spanish, Natalie Camargo: Advanced French

Miss Maria Buontempo, French and Latin teacher, coordinates participation in the statewide competition and “really enjoys the spirit of the competitors. The students can showcase their language studies and compete among their peers from other schools.” Mother Seton has entered this event for the past 15 years.
