PHOTO: Hehnly School Awards Students Who 'Make a Difference'

Nine students were recognized in a surprise ceremony.

Nine students at Frank K. Hehnly Elementary School in Clark were awarded
certificates for “Making a Difference.” The entire staff participates in the nominations by choosing students who show extraordinary behavior. The difference can be showing compassion, being a leader, taking chances or even being extra curious.

Every marking period the teachers submit students' names along with an explanation about the special trait they showed. Then letters are sent out to the parents inviting them to come to school for a surprise ceremony. The students are not told until that day why their parents have been notified to come to school.

School Principal Shirley Bergin presented the nine students with a certificate, special button, and an explanation about how they made a difference at their school.
