1 Cranford Student Chosen As 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Candidates

Up to 161 students nationwide will be named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.​

CRANFORD, NJ — A total of 19 students in Union County including one from Cranford have been nominated as a US Presidential Scholar, a prestigious program that recognizing outstanding graduating high school students.

Cranford student included:

  • Yueqing Grace Chen, Cranford - Cranford High Schoo

Over 4,000 students were nominated nationally in recognition of their academic or technical skill. That list will be narrowed down to 800 in April, and a maximum of 161 will be honored in a May ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.
