2 NJ Teen Girls On Bikes Killed In Hit-And-Run, Reports Say
Both of the riders were taken to hospitals where they were pronounced dead.
CRANFORD, NJ — Two teenage girls were hit by a car and killed Monday, according to authorities and published reports.
CBS News New York reported the driver fled the scene but is now in custody.

"Our Cranford community suffered a terrible tragedy this evening," Superintendent of Cranford Public Schools, Dr. Scott Rubin, said in a statement to the district community. "Our thoughts are with all of you, and especially the families and closest friends of the students involved."
At around 5:30 p.m. Cranford Police arrived at Burnside Avenue after two bike riders were hit by a car.

The accident triggered a massive response from social media as dozens of posts garnering hundreds of comments shared dismay, grief, anger and fear over another serious accident.
The two victims were airlifted to the hospital, where they later died, authorities said.
A witness on Burnside Avenue described the sounds of screeching tires to ABC7.
"He was home, and he heard a car going really fast down the street," Clare told the outlet. "And then it sounded like a like a car crash. People are going way too fast down the street and it's really scary."
Crisis teams will be at each of the schools within the Cranford district to provide counseling and support.

This latest death follows another just days ago on Sept. 24 when a 13-year-old was hit while riding an electronic bike (e-bike) in Scotch Plains. Amidst the growing popularity of e-bikes, police in Union County are continuing to alert their communities about the proper safety guidelines while sharing the roads.
