Arthur Snyder talks to AFA 195 about his Korean War service

The Air Force Association Chapter 195 will sponsor a free talk on Sat., March 28th, at about 1:30 pm, by Arthur L. Snyder, of Cranford, NJ, who will give Part 2 of his flying service during the Korean War. In Part I, he talked about his 38 interdiction missions flying the hard nose B-26B with fourteen 50 calibers up front and with a variety of bombs. While the B-26B was a good plane, it had no heat and was frequently 20 degrees below zero resulting in frost bite to fingers and toes in the cold Korean environment. In Part II, he was transferred to a new CIA Wing to fly B-29’s on covert missions. So please come out to hear Art talk about his B-29 flying missions.
Arthur L. Snyder graduated from college in 1950 and was about to be drafted, but applied for and received a direct commission in the Air Force and was assigned as Base Salvage Office, Maxwell AFB, AL. The Korean War started in July and wanting to get in to combat, he applied for and was accepted for flight training. He got his wish, with three years in the Orient, flying two tours in Korea and one in Indochina where he flew mostly covert missions for the CIA. He returned in the fall of 1954 and was a flight instructor in B-57’s. He was discharged in August 1955.
The Shooting Star Chapter 195 will meet prior to the talk at 12:30 PM, March 28th, to have lunch with the speaker at Charlie Brown’s, 522 Southern Blvd., Chatham Township, NJ, 07928. Everyone is welcome to attend the lunch as well as the free talk at 1:30 PM. To make a lunch reservation at $20.00 pp or for further information, contact Howard Leach at 973-540-1283, or hhleach@aol.com . You do not have to be an AFA member to attend.
