The Blessing of the Creche Service: 12/24 4:30 PM
The custom of displaying figures depicting the birth of Jesus Christ began with Saint Francis of Assisi who made the Christmas creche or manger for Christmas Eve of 1223. The Christmas manger or nativity scene was a primarily special display for families in their homes drawing them together in prayer and joyful celebration. Each year, on the Vigil of Christmas, the Parish children carry the figures of the animals, shepherds and the Holy Family recreating a display that tells the story of the Christ Child.
