CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Community came together on Wednesday at a blood drive in support of a child battling cancer.

Megan Stitz, 7, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in November 2025.

There are several types of AML, all of which affect blood cell levels. Cases are usually found in people aged 60 and over and typically involve certain genes or chromosomes that become mutated, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Over the last few months, Megan has needed a number of blood transfusions during her stay at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and is also in need of a bone marrow transplant.

The drive on Wednesday, held at the Cranford VFW and coordinated by New Jersey Blood Services, was just one way the community is rallying around Megan.

A gofundme page was also created to help her parents with the financial tolls of out-of-network care, travel, time away from work, and other costs that continue to build in their fight to help their daughter.

As of Feb. 5, more than $139,300 has been raised on the site.

Organizers added that "if you cannot give financially, sharing this page or keeping Megan in your thoughts and prayers means the world to us."

A bone marrow drive is also being held at the Berkeley Heights YMCA on Saturday.
