Wrestlers Roll Over Morristown

Craanford grapplers improve to 12-5

The Final Count

The Cranford Cougars swept Morristown 57-24 over the weekend, a match that never saw the wrestlers in jeopardy.

After losing the first bout by a pin Cranford coach Darren Torsone moved Ray El Khoury up to heavyweight and El Khoury delivered, for the second match in a row, with a third-period pin.

"I have not lost at 130 lbs this season so I should get the  number 1 seed in districts"' Markovitch said. "The districts will not be easy but I'm confident that if I wrestle well I should advance." Christiano expects a tough time at his weight class in districts. "I'll be seeded number 1 but with Jon Balboni and Travis Foster in my weight we very well could have the top three finishers in our region come out of this district. I'm coming off a close win over Balboni so that will give me confidence for the next time I meet him."

The Recap

From 125 lbs through 145 lbs., Cranford received five pins in a row from Joe Giaccio, Ian Henry, Kyle Markovitch, Eric Knight and Matt DiGiovanni. Freshman Corey Birch won his 119 lb bout 9-4 as he continued his successful inaugural season for the Cougars. Rob Kessler added a pin at 189lbs.

What's Next

Tuesday evening the Cougars will face the Minutemen of Elizabeth at home. Start time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
