Citizenship and GED Celebration

Union County College’s Center for Economic and Workforce Development (CEWD) will host a Citizenship and GED Celebration on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. on the fifth floor of the College’s Kellogg Building on the Elizabeth Campus.  This is an end-of-the-year celebration to honor those students who have successfully achieved their citizenship or earned their high school equivalency diploma.

The CEWD runs citizenship classes throughout the year which enable individuals to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the United States Citizenship Exam.

The General Education Development (GED) tests are a group of five subject tests which certify that the individual who passes the test has high-school level academic skills.  The CEWD also runs GED classes throughout the year which enable individuals who did not graduate from high school to earn a high school equivalency diploma.

The keynote speaker for the event will be former New Jersey Governor James J. Florio who has a GED.  He has said that the GED enabled him to get back on track.  He is a graduate of Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) and received his law degree from Rutgers School of Law – Camden.
