The Cranford Historical Society is proud to present Maria Tisdall, author of “The Convent Cook: Divine Meals for Families Large and Small” on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 2:30pm. Doors open at 2:00pm and there will be a discussion and book signing.
“Simple, savory food is alive and well in Maria Tisdall’s “The Convent Cook: Divine Meals for Families Large and Small,” a collection of 90-plus easy recipes that are instant
family pleaser's. Tisdall is a professional cook who found an appreciative audience for her talents among the Benedictine sisters of New Jersey’s Saint Walburga monastery. As convent chef, Tisdall introduced the sisters to the gastronomic delights of couscous, balsamic vinegar, and other “modern” ingredients, featured in dishes like Roast Pork Loin with Olives and Capers and Cold Sesame Noodles with Chicken and Summer Vegetables.” (Amazon.com Review)
Maria Tisdall loved cooking from an early age and was a three-time finalist in Seventeen magazine’s Now You’re Cooking National Competition at the Culinary Institute of
America. She later graduated from the CIA and then spent six years in restaurants before starting work at Saint Walburga. Maria owns Cheese…Please!, an Educated
Cheese Shop in Downtown Cranford. This specialty shop carries close to 100 different kinds of cheeses, all hand-cut to order. They also carry Irish and British treats like Aero
Chocolate bars, black pudding and traditional sausage. Just this past August, the Star-Ledger’s MunchMobile 2011 gave “Top Dog” honors to Cheese……Please! for its
selection and service.
