Operation Cranford: Be Prepared is a disaster preparedness drill scheduled for Aug. 5 and 6 at the Orange Avenue School. The purpose is to educate & raise awareness of how to respond in the event of a natural disaster. The drill will be coordinated by Cranford Boy Scout Troops 75 & 80 in conjunction with Cranford Police & Fire Departments and Union County Emergency Management. The event will also raise funds for ShelterBOX, a non-profit organization that delivers emergency shelter and other necessary supplies to people affected by disaster worldwide.
Participants in "Operation Cranford: Be Prepared" will be asked to come to Orange Avenue School at 5 PM on Friday, August 5th bringing only the bare essentials. These include a blanket or sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries and other personal necessities. A temporary "tent city" willl be erected by the Scouts to provide shelter for the evening. A simple dinner will be prepared for all. Evening entertainment will include games, an outdoor movie, and the St. Barnabas Hospital Fire Safety House, as well as information you may need if a true disaster was to come to Cranford. On Saturday morning breakfast will be served and the participants will return to their homes. The event will end at 10 AM on Saturday morning.
The cost of this fun and educational event is $25 for a family of 4.
