The Cranford Public Library is currently exhibiting a selection of paintings and sketches by Stephen D’Amato featuring Cranford locales. Mr. D’Amato has shown his paintings in New Jersey and New York City and has taught art classes throughout New Jersey. He studied at Syracuse University and graduated from Rutgers University. He later spent five years continuing his studies at the Art Students League of New York. His instructors at the Art Students League included Harvey Dinnerstein, Sharon Sprung and Michael Burban. He assisted Michael Burban for two years in anatomy classes and lectures.
Mr. D’Amato has also worked as a graphic designer and illustrator. Commenting on his depictions of Cranford, Mr. D’Amato noted, “This is an on-going series of my drawings
and paintings, reflecting the inspiration I find in Cranford. Having lived in Cranford for the past 20 years, now, I feel a strong relationship with this town, especially on a visual level. It is usually my daily routine to walk through town reflecting upon what I would like to express about it. Some of my passion for painting and studying Cranford stems from wanting to preserve and record the beauty of this unique town.” Mr. D’Amato’s work will be on display through the end of December. The library is located at 224 Walnut Avenue.
