The Friends of the Cranford Public Library will host a script-in-hand, staged reading by members of The Theater Project, a professional theater company formerly located at Union County College’s Cranford campus. The play that will be read is Generations Apart by Marv Siegel. Generations Apart is a comedy about a Jewish couple living in a retirement community and the Catholic widow who moves in next door. The two women become fast friends and decide to play matchmaker for their divorced children, until a shocking revelation causes one of the women to fall victim to irrational fear and begin a campaign to do everything in her power to keep the children apart. The reading will be followed by a lively discussion among the playwright, the director, the actors and members of the audience. Marv Siegel is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Author's League of America. Several of his stage plays have received rave reviews in New York, and he has received a number of playwriting awards. He has also written several screenplays and three television pilots. Mr. Siegel continues to develop Generations Apart with an eye toward an off-Broadway engagement in the near future. Admission to the program is free.
