The Friends of the Cranford Public Library and The Theater Project are pleased to host script-in-hand, staged readings of three one-act plays. The Theater Project, originally headquartered in Cranford and currently located at the Burgdoff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood, is one of New Jersey’s most acclaimed professional theater groups. The afternoon will begin with “Mr. Temu” by Ed Latero. In “Mr. Temu” a man contemplates murder as he prays in church. Another man, who knows about his plans, suddenly confronts him. Mr. Latero’s plays have been produced in New York and New Jersey. He has a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from Montclair State University. “Mr. Temu” will be followed by “The Company” by Joseph Vitale. In “The Company” two CIA agents visit a junkyard at midnight in search of a mysterious item. What one of them does not know is that it is his last assignment for “the Company.” Mr. Vitale is the author of several plays, including The Fourth State of Matter, which was performed at the Theater for the New City in New York. He was a semi-finalist at the Eugene O’Neil Theater/National Playwrights Conference this past summer. The third play, “Hold On,” by Jewel Seehaus-Fisher, sees chaos descend and language bleed in a comedy set in a hospital. Ms. Seehaus-Fisher is a two-time recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Individual Fellowship in Playwriting, a finalist in the Samuel French Festival, a two-time finalist in the Actors Theatre of Louisville ten-minute competition, and the author of full-length and short plays produced in New Jersey, New York, Florida and California. The readings will be followed by a discussion among the authors, actors, directors, and members of the audience.
