Five Things You Need To Know for Aug. 2, 2011

1. The Cranford Police Department will host its annual event tonight at the gazebo, located on the corner of North Union and Springfield avenues, from 6 to 9 p.m.

2. The Cranford Library will host a Science Matters! program for kids at 10 a.m. at the Community Center.

3. The Township Committee will conduct a special meeting tonight at 7:30 to vote on an ordinance that would charge residents based on their water usage, rather than a base property tax.

4. During a special meeting of the Township Committee, officials will introduce an ordinance that, if approved, will allow the township to appeal the court's recent decision regarding the Birchwood Avenue property.

5. The township runs a free shuttle bus service for senior citizens from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
