Hammer-Wielding Robber Attacks Man In Cranford: Police
The Linden man was wearing a ski mask and armed with a hammer when he allegedly attacked a man in a parking lot of a Winans Avenue business.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Linden man was arrested for attacking and robbing another with a hammer in a Cranford parking lot, police report.
A 28-year-old male victim reported on Jan. 9 at around 7:18 a.m. that an unknown male, wearing a ski mask and armed with a hammer, attacked him in an area parking lot of a Winans Avenue business.
After a brief struggle, the suspect took the victim’s money and fled in a motor vehicle that was parked on Meeker Avenue, Cranford Police reported.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the man.
Lawrence Briceno, 29, of Linden was identified as the suspect and was arrested later that day by police following an investigation.

Briceno was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Additionally, a search of Briceno’s motor vehicle found proceeds from the crime.
Briceno was processed and later remanded to the Union County Jail pending a Superior Court appearance.
Chief Ryan Greco praised the officers involved in the case for their efforts in solving the case quickly and removing the threat from our streets.
