Heroin, Marijuana, Needles Found During Traffic Stops In Cranford
Cranford Police arrested seven people on drug-possession charges including marijuana, heroin and hypodermic syringes.

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford Police arrested seven people on drug-possession charges including marijuana, heroin and hypodermic syringes.

On Feb. 19 at 9:31 a.m.: A 2009 Acura was stopped at the intersection of Raritan Road and Centennial Avenue for unclear plates. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Christopher Gross arrested the driver, Jermaine Brown, 28, of Belleville for marijuana found inside the vehicle. He was charged with possession of marijuana (Under 5og) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a municipal court appearance date. Additionally, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for unclear plates and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

On Feb. 21 at 11:52 a.m.: William Hay, 24, of Cranford was arrested on active warrant from the Union County Sheriff’s Department. While being processed, Patrolman John Rattigan located suspected heroin and paraphernalia on his person. William Hay was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of paraphernalia provided with a superior court appearance date and turned over to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
On Feb. 21 at 7:15 p.m.: A 1999 Acura was stopped on North Avenue East near Orchard Street for tinted windows. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman John Rattigan arrested a passenger, Kion Hall, 42, of Elizabeth for suspected marijuana found on his person. He was charged with possession of marijuana (over 50 grams) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a municipal court appearance. Additionally, the driver was issued a motor vehicle summons for tinted windows.

On Feb. 21 at 11:31 p.m.: A 2008 Honda was stopped on the Garden State Parkway for no front plate and tinted windows. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Brian Trotter arrested the driver, Joseph Been, 20, of Jersey City for suspected marijuana found in the vehicle. He was charged with possession of marijuana (over 50 grams) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a municipal court appearance. Additionally, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for no front license plate, tinted windows and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
On Feb. 22 at 10:36 p.m.: A 2016 Hyundai was stopped on Willow Street near West End Place for failure to keep right. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Brian Trotter, arrested the driver, Brett Byars, 29, of Kenilworth for suspected marijuana found inside the car. He was charged with possession of marijuana (over 50 grams) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a Superior court appearance. In addition, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to keep right and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
On Feb. 23 at 7:24 p.m.: A 2002 Hyundai was stopped on Centennial Avenue near Cayuga Road for a seat belt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Jason D’Agostino, arrested a passenger, Joseph Santos, 43, of Hasbrouck Heights for suspected heroin and hypodermic syringes located on his person. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of paraphernalia, processed and then turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department on an active warrant. He was also issued a summons for a seat belt violation and given a pending superior court appearance date
On Feb. 25 at 1:46 a.m.: A 2017 Hyundai was stopped on Raritan Road and Mohawk Drive for maintenance of lamps. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Michael O’Neil arrested the driver, Matthew Graves, 34, of Aberdeen, North Carolina for being in possession of prescription legend drugs and driving while intoxicated. He was charged with possession of prescription legend drugs, possession of paraphernalia and driving while intoxicated (DWI), processed and released pending a superior court appearance. In addition, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for refusal to consent to the taking of breath samples, careless driving, failure to observe a traffic control signal, failure to keep right and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
On Feb. 25 at 11:19 p.m.: A 2006 Toyota was stopped on North Avenue East near Elizabeth Avenue for a seat belt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Timothy Handy, arrested the driver, Kimberly Basile, 54, of Roselle Park for suspected marijuana found inside the car. She was charged with possession of marijuana (over 50 grams) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a municipal court appearance. In addition, she was issued motor vehicle summonses for a seat belt violation, suspended driver, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
